Welcome to Riverbend Karate

The aim of Riverbend Karate is to provide students of the Edmonton community with a way to keep active that will hopefully stay with them for life. We look to develop this by developing strength and flexibility, physical speed and endurance, personal discipline and self control.
The first two items are a direct result of the physical training both within and outside of class; the last two items are a result training and actively working with other students in the club. Each students trains at his or her own pace with both higher and lower ranked students allowing them to gain an understanding of how they progress as well as developing self-esteem.
While karate is a martial art, the key is to maintain control of a situation rather than to be overly agressive. Karate provides the knowledge to protect yourself if no other option exists but also focuses on ways to avoid serious confrontation.
We believe self-defense to be a last resort.
Riverbend Karate adheres to the Shintani Federation Mission Statement: "We are a family oriented traditional karate organization, focusing on Sensei Masaru Shintani's teachings of kindness and humility. Our goal is to move into the future with ties to the past, developing confident individuals who will be positive role models within the community."
